Singer J's 'Gangnam Badman Style' doing well

Dancehall entertainer Singer J is enjoying a resurgence in his career since the single, Gangnam Badman Style was released and became a local hit in the dancehall.

The song and video is inspired by South Korean rapper Psy's Gangnam Style worldwide smash which became the first video in the history of the Internet to be viewed more than a billion times.

"Right now, Gangnam Badman Style has over 400,000 hits on YouTube and it ah get crazy play inna the dances dem inna Jamaica, the song shot," Singer J said.

Singer J said the idea came about to do the Gangnam Badman Style when Mega Banton saw the original Gangnam Style on YouTube and wanted to emulate it.

"At the time, it did only gone 400,000 views and Mega Banton say bet say it work, and we need fi do one too, and dem go inna the studio and ah do dem part and mi drop asleep and inna the hours, dem come wake me and mi shot up my part, and we do the video same time and it just connect," he said.

Singer J said he has been surprised at the reaction to the song which was released on the JRK label based in Braeton Phase 11 in Portmore, St. Catherine.

Singer J performed at a show called Jamfest on Christmas Day in Montego Bay and did another show on Boxing Day in Negril. He has a couple of shows coming up next year including one in Trinidad on February 23, and in March. he has already been booked for Spring Break in Negril. He also performs regularly in the United States, and rocked a big show in Boston a few months ago called I Am Not Afraid that packed over 500 patrons into a club.

"Mi fan base big over in the United States because I have made my name as a great performer," he said.

Singer J's bookings are handled by Real Mad Entertainment and Cariblink.

"Right now, mi ah look forward to Trinidad, mi friend Terry Ganzie say the song big big over de, and him just send fi couple dubs, so right now, the whole Caribbean ah go tun up with Gangnam Badman Style," Singer J said.
