Two-time defending champions Elite Bloodstock Limited, owners of Superstakes winner MARK MY WORD, were declared champion owners over Michros (Michael Bernard) after a close but disputed finish at Caymanas Park on Saturday, the final raceday of 2012.

At the end of Saturday's meet, confusion reigned when the $800,000 plus earned by Michros' horses (including two winners in City Flight and Alphaletta) showed him winning the championship ahead of Elite Bloodstock, this based on the owners' statistics compiled by the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) and published in the Track & Pools each raceday.

However, while his earnings put him over the top on the JRC list, the other statistics compiled by Caymanas Track Limited and from which purses are paid, showed Elite Bloodstock as the winners. Both earned in excess of $14 million and it was close in the end.

Following an in-depth check of the figures by JRC and CTL personnel over the weekend, It was officially announced during yesterday's meet that Elite Bloodstock were, in fact, the winners for a third consecutive year with $14,362,950 as against Michros $14,313,450 - a lead of $49,000.

value of trophies

A statement from CTL's racing secretary Denzil Miller Jr., said: "The figures represent total purses earned for 2012 inclusive of the value of trophies won outright which have been historically added to decide champions."

Miller disclosed that the JRC statistics did not include the value of trophies won outright by the owners, hence, the ascendancy by Elite Blookstock, who won some $90,000 in trophy added to purses.

This was mainly due to MARK MY WORD, who won four grade-one trophy races, including the Superstakes, Governor General's Stakes and Harry Jackson Memorial Cup.

Michros, on the other hand, won over $20,000 from value of trophies added to purses.

Elite Bloodstock comprises a syndicate of noted owners - Randy McLean, Laurence Heffes, Alexander Haber, Milade Azan, Dr. Graham Brown, Edison Chai and trainer Richard Azan.
