Court probes allegations that ... 12-Y-O CHOPPED FOR MOM
Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James man who allegedly cut a 12-year-old girl with a machete during an argument with her mother had his bail extended in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Godfrey Mendez, from Montego Bay, is charged with unlawful wounding and returns to court on February 8.

Allegations are that on December 18, 2012, Mendez was in a domestic dispute with the child's mother when he brandished a machete and attacked the woman. However, the child intervened and received a wound to her shoulder as a result.

Yesterday, neither the complainant nor her mother was present at court and the medical certificate was still outstanding from the prosecution's case-file. It was also indicated that the mother may not be interested in pursuing the matter further.

Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small set the case for mention on February 8, at which time the court will learn whether the case will be pursued or dismissed.
