German delegation visits Portmore |

A German delegation from the city of Hagen, is to visit the Portmore municipality in February to discuss plans of co-operation and visit a number of green projects. Portmore's Mayor George Lee made the announcement at the Portmore Municipal Council general council meeting recently, where he announced the twinning of Portmore and the German city. Lee told the council that the initiative will bring value to Portmore. He said he is pleased with the twinning which he said occurred after councillor Renair Benjamin visited Costa Rica where he met and had discussions with representatives from Germany. "We will access projects relating to climate change, we will also benefit from best practices in alternative energy and funding from the initiative," Lee told those present at the meeting. He said Portmore was the only local municipality from the English-speaking Caribbean to be involved in this initiative. He said the visit of the German delegation will be used educate the local authority on, among other things, climate change. The Portmore Star learnt that the delegation will comprise of the deputy mayor of Hagen and two engineers, PMC members will visit that city in September. "This is a significant development as sound environmental practices such as renewable energy and other activities crucial to the continued development of Portmore and the country in general, will be looked at," Lee told THE PORTMORE STAR after the meeting. Meanwhile, Councillor Benjamin said the visit to Costa Rica was a good one where he was exposed to cities in Latin America and spoke with German representatives on best practices and climate change. - R.T. |
