Hand Farm United senior citizens' treat

Meleita Lewis from the prayer team at Hand Farm United hands out food.

Hand Farm United, a non-profit organisation based in Westchester, hosted a senior citizens' treat at the Westchester Community Centre during the festive season.

More than 50 seniors, some who are shut-ins, benefited from food and refreshments.

Oscar Williams, president of Hand Farm United, said that it was a part of their moral duty to give to the needy and less fortunate. Guest speaker, the Rev Andrew Bills, commended Hand Farm United for its work with the elderly and less fortunate in our society.

He added: "When we give to the poor (and needy), we lend to the Lord."

As part of the entertainment package, students from St Henry's Basic School did sign language, while Aysha Lewin did a couple of Louise Bennett poems, namely Love Letter and Not A Little Twang.

The Hand Farm United prayer team, led by Meleita Lewis and featuring Herma Williams, Mabel Nelson and Kelleen Peterkin, did a dramatisation on the importance of prayer and the importance of the Bible's teachings in our everyday life.

Meanwhile, Alicia Phidd of the Social Development Commission, was acknowledged for her sterling contribution to the organisation.
