Norwich, Portland: The Portland police on Saturday seized electrical appliances, clothing, cellular phones and other items from a house in Norwich district. This, during a raid in which one man was detained for questioning. His name has not been released. Police said they conducted a raid on a house at Norwich and seized speakers, a GPS system, DVDs, video cassette players, a 40-inch flat-screen television, a variety of cellular phones, electrical drill, playstations and clothing. Commanding officer for Portland, Deputy Superintendent Wayne Cameron, said the community police initiative is now reaping its desired results, as residents now have some levels of confidence in the police, which has allowed them to tackle crime more effectively. "As a parish, we boast the lowest crime rate," commented DSP Cameron. "This does not happen by chance, but the good relationship with residents and the police is paying off. The men and women under my command are determine to keep crime in this parish at its minimum. Yes, it is the safest parish, but it will not be a safe haven for those engaged in criminal and other illicit activities." One woman has since come forward and has identified some of the stolen items as belonging to her. Police say the woman alleges the items were stolen from her house in Norwich a month ago. |
