Persons along 'Back Road' fearful of escapee

A number of persons along Port Henderson's 'Back Road' in Portmore, St Catherine, are now fearful and concerned about a prisoner who escaped police custody yesterday.

The man on the run is Leon Damion Smith, 30, of Portsmouth, Portmore, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 4 a.m., the man was under police guard at the Spanish Town Hospital. Smith, who is also known as 'Dung Don', escaped from the Spanish Town Hospital where he was admitted after being beaten during an attempt robbery.

He was in custody on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

"Lawd Jezas, den him a go come back fi wi roun ere, as a yah so dem mash him up and hand him and di gun ova to di police," a woman said to much approval from others when The Star visited the entertainment strip yesterday, and observed the distress among many.

Police reports are that on December 29 last year, he went to a go-go club and tried to rob persons at gunpoint

He was reportedly overpowered and a 9mm pistol with a total of 26 lives rounds were taken from him.
