If the recent launch of the sixth annual Youth View Awards at the Terra Nova Hotel is any indication of what patrons can expect from this year's staging, then Jamaicans are certainly in for a treat, come February 2.

All roads led to the Terra Nova's Pavilion last Thursday and it was evident that the organisers pulled out all the stops to create what telecoms sponsor dubbed, 'YVA Nation'.

The launch started at 8 p.m. with a very high-energy cocktail party in a beautifully decorated garden setting, before the nominees for this year were announced. As expected, the announcement of the nominees brought resounding cheers when patrons heard that their favourite artistes and personalities made the list.

Categories include Favourite Dancehall Artiste (female), Favourite Dancehall Artiste (male), Favourite Local International Artiste, Hottest Summer Song, and Favourite Video Director. Several artistes were nominated for multiple categories, including Digicel's brand ambassador Tifa, who was nominated in four different categories and is always a crowd favourite at the awards show.

Speaking at the launch, Digicel's Sponsorship Manager Tahnida Nunes shared that Digicel was very passionate about the YVA and is happy to be on board for the sixth year running, as it gives the company the opportunity to show the youthfulness and vibrancy of the brand each year.

"Karen and the YVAs are like family to us at Digicel, and we commend her for the vision behind this event, which gives young people a voice while helping to preserve our music which is a huge part of our culture," Nunes said. "We will also be embarking on a number of activities to treat patrons and truly deliver the high energy that patrons have become accustomed to at the YVAs."

Some of the highlights that patrons can look forward to this year will include a sophisticated voting line where fans will be able to vote via the official YVA text line (444-2494), style carpet affairs and a Swagg Lounge to exclusively fête the top 20 celebrity nominees and media. The event will also be powered by Digicel's 4G Broadband and will be streamed live on Digicel's Facebook page to its over 378,000 fans. The after-party VIP Lounge, another aspect of the event to look forward to, will also feature Digicel waitresses taking drink orders using their 4G technology on Huawei Mediapads.

Karen Clarke, promoter for the event said: "Digicel has always been supportive of the vision of the YVAs and believes the Jamaican artistes need to be celebrated! We are very excited about this year's staging, and even more excited that we have been able to maintain all our major sponsors for the past 6 years, which is a testament to the quality of the product that our patrons are used to. I have no doubt Digicel will continue to share our vision of making this bigger and better here in Jamaica and across the region!"

The annual Youth View Awards will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
