Devon Sherwin was brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, to answer to charges of possession of, dealing in and taking steps to export ganja. The accused was reportedly caught by police with six pounds (2.73 kilograms) of marijuana in his possession. Sherwin, who said he is a lover of the illegal herb, told the court, "I like to smoke ganja and it is cheaper in Jamaica, so I tried to bring some with me to Curaçao." Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey fined Sherwin $9,600 for the possession of ganja or six months in prison; $19,200 for dealing in ganja or 6 months and $28,600 for taking steps to export the substance, or spend six months in prison. RM Pusey requested a fingerprint order and also for Sherwin to receive immediate medical attention, at his request. |
