Court told that ...Woman chopped for $50 bus fare

Bus conductor Purcell Corvel who was charged with felonious wounding appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Purcell who is no stranger to the court, was accused of chopping the complainant who was a passenger on the bus he was operating on December 4.

The court was told that the complainant was attacked by the accused, after she demanded the return of her fare ($50) due to the incompletion of her journey.

The complainant and Corvel then got into an altercation over the fare, after which Corvel chopped the complainant on the right side of her face.

She received multiple stitches and was admitted to the Kingston Public Hospital for nine days.

Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey placed Corvel's bail at $80,000 with surety and he is to return to court on February 4.
