Sebastian sounds warning

Liam Sebastian

CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC):

All-rounder Liam Sebastian says Windward Islands players will be going all out to unleash their best performance ever in an effort to lift the Caribbean T20 title on home soil.

Sebastian sounded the warning as the tournament resumes in St Lucia today and following his matching-winning performance that knocked Leewards out of the competition on Saturday.

He grabbed four for 17 and picked up Man of the Match honours as Windwards defeated Leewards by 10 runs at the Queens Park Oval.

"Over the past few years, we have been reaching the semi-finals and losing at the semi-finals. So this year we want to take it an extra step," declared Sebastian.

"This year is the final year of this competition, so we want the Windward Islands to be the team lifting the championship, and no other place to do it than in St Lucia that's our home ground."

St Lucia are hosting the remaining matches in the round-robin phase of the tournament as well as the play-off and the final after earlier games in Trinidad.

Windwards are currently fourth in the standings on eight points but alongside two other teams - Barbados and Guyana - on the same number of points.

Today, the home side resume their campaign for top honours when they take on leaders Trinidad and Tobago, who they defeated last year.

"Captain Sammy has always being talking about the experience he encountered in Sri Lanka for the World T20," said Sebastian, son of team manager Lockhart Sebastian, a former Windward Islands cricketer.

Only two countries have won the Caribbean T20 tournament- Guyana and back-to-back champions, Trinidad and Tobago.
