Three in custody after arms find

Three men have been taken into custody in connection with the seizure of three illegal guns and 100 rounds of assorted ammunition in Old Harbour yesterday.

The Star was informed that sometime yesterday evening, the Old Harbour police in St Catherine conducted an operation in the Old Harbour Glades Housing Scheme.

A house was approached and during a search of the roof, an AK-47 rifle with seven rounds of ammunition and two handguns, a 9mm pistol with 87 rounds, and a .38 Taurus revolver with six rounds of ammunition were found.

"We went in the area on an intelligence driven operation when these weapon were found. We are asking for continued assistance in the fight against crime," Inspector Moschel Panton said.

The seizure brings to four the number of illegal guns to be seized in Old Harbour since the start of the year.

The Star was told that those held are awaiting further investigations, and are to be questioned in the presence of their attorneys.

Meanwhile, they are being held on suspicion of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

The Star was informed that the operation started about 5 p.m. and ended about 7 p.m.
