Two killed, firearms seized |

Detectives attached to the St Andrew North Police Division have commenced an intensive investigation into yesterday's shooting death of a licensed firearm holder, and his attacker on Saxthorpe Avenue, Kingston 8. The incident took place shortly after six. The licensed firearm holder has been identified as 48-year-old Winston Josephs, a businessman of a St Ann address, and his attacker is yet to be identified. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Josephs was walking on the roadway when a lone man rode up on a bicycle, robbed him of his cellular phone and other valuables, then shot Josephs who pulled his firearm and engaged the man in a shoot-out. Both men died on the spot from the injuries they received. A police unit that was strate-gically placed in the area to provide security for early morning joggers, business people and children going to school responded to the sounds of gunshots. identified gunman The quick action of the police enabled them to secure the two weapons. While the police were on the scene, at least four passersby were able to identify the gunman as the one who had robbed them earlier in the morning of their cellular phones and other valuables. They provided the police with their cellphone numbers and when they were dialed all of them rang in the gunman's pocket. The scene was processed by detectives from the Scene of Crime section. |
