Accused car thief remanded |

Rasbert Turner, Portmore Star Writer A man who is accused of stealing a car in Portmore and giving it to another to run as a taxi, was remanded when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday. Christopher Gordon of Faiths Pen, St Ann, who is accused of stealing the vehicle and George Nesbeth of Moneague, also in St Ann, who was using the vehicle as a taxi, are both charged with larceny of motor vehicle. When the case was mentioned in court, Gordon was ordered remanded and Nesbeth's bail was extended. The court was informed that Nesbeth is likely to be called as a witness for the Crown. Allegation in the case are that on March 18 last year, the complainant parked his Toyota motor car at his home in the municipality and went to bed. When he awoke, it was missing. On April 25, the court heard, Gordon reportedly gave Nesbeth the vehicle to operate as a taxi. The complainant was in St Ann on July 31 last year when he saw his car whisked past him. He sought the assistance of the Moneague police and the vehicle was intercepted. Nesbeth informed the police that he was given the car by Gordon. Investigations led to Gordon being arrested and charged with larceny.
