Sounds of Silence Music Institute, based in a section of Old Braeton called Wallen, teamed up with the Braeton Church of Christ and hosted a treat and fellowship for children on Wallen Avenue over the festive season.

During the treat, scores of children from the Old Braeton community and it environs were fêted with refreshments.

The children, some accompanied by their parents, were treated to a musical display from the students of the Sounds of Silence Music Institute, prayers, songs and blessings from the host church and special guest performer Brother Andre harmonised on trumpet.

They seemingly enjoyed the proceedings though it was far from the regular big splash with toys and a lot of goodies of former years when sponsorship came directly from overseas.

Jennifer 'Precious' Peterkin and her husband Glenford, the chief music instructor at Sounds of Silence Music Institute, have been the main organisers of the treat for the past few years.

For a second year running, they weren't able to get a sponsor but that didn't deter them from giving back to their community.

"This is our way of saying thanks to the parents who allowed us to teach their children music over the years. Mrs Peterkin said. "The main aim is to give the children something to smile about."
