Pizza delivery men sentenced

Three pizza delivery men formerly employed to a fast food establishment were sentenced to prison in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for their involvement in removing funds from a stolen credit card.

Douglas Walker, Kenrick Morris and Clayton Bryan, all charged with simple larceny and conspiracy to defraud, were sentenced to 18 months for simple larceny and 12 months at hard labour on the conspiracy to defraud charge.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

On the other hand, their supervisor Jovian Lewis, also implicated in the incident and charged with simple larceny, was offered $100,000 bail with surety. He was ordered to submit his fingerprints to the police. He returns to court on February 20.

The Crown heard that the men participated in the unlawful removal of $64,000 in multiple transactions off the complainant's credit card.

Walker told Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that he was doing Lewis a favour because he told him that he was low on cash.

He said Lewis instructed him to give him monies that he collected on deliveries and he will balance the pizza payments by deducting the money from the credit card.

Walker said he thought Lewis and his mother were joint account holders of the credit card and he had no idea the card belonged to someone else.

He told RM. Pusey that he did not become suspicious until multiple transactions had already been carried out. He said he did not expect that from Lewis. However, Lewis denied any involvement in the crime.

The complainant received a collective amount of $51,000 in reimbursement from the three accused who were sentenced.
