Spice flexes philanthropic muscles |

Spice - File It is always inspiring to see celebrities harness their fame for the benefit of some charity. Jamaican entertainers have often been lauded for giving back to their communites. This time around, it is female deejay Spice, who is flexing her philanthropic muscles. Eskay Catering teamed up with the dancehall artiste on Thursday to conduct a short cooking demonstration for students at the Hope Valley Experimental School. The teaching exercise was geared towards the mentally and physically impaired students enrolled in the school's special-needs classes. "This is just a way for Eskay Catering to give back to the community and bring a little joy and excitement to a few kids living with some form of disability," CEO of Eskay Catering, Stephen Hamilton, told The STAR. Which kid doesn't love food? The children were taught by Hamilton and Spice how to make a healthy and scrumptious chicken wrap. After Spice and Hamilton conducted the demonstration, they went around the class and eagerly helped kids to make their own. The event ended with full stomachs and satisfied smiles as the kids got to eat the meal they had prepared. Spice revealed to The Star she has a passion for charity and is something she always tries to immerse herself in. "When I was called by Stephen, I was excited to come on board especially after he told me that they were kids with disabilities. I am so happy that I could help because I, myself, am a mother of two so helping kids is already like my daily job," Spice said. The philanthropic femme fatale said seeing kids, some in wheelchairs, not being fully able to help themselves, really touched her heart. Teachers at the school said they were glad to see the artiste participating in the initiative as she is a role model for some of the kids. - J.D. |
