Woman, cousin sentenced for theft

A woman who has been charged with her cousin in connection with the theft of a pair of pants was sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magis-trate's Court yesterday.

Donna-Marie Mitchell was fined $10,000 or six months for receiving stolen property, and $100 or 10 days for illegal possession of ganja.

Mitchell, who is charged with having an offensive weapon, returns to court on March 12 for trial as she pleaded not guilty to that charge.

Meanwhile, a warrant has been issued for George Wright who was absent from court.

Wright is charged with simple larceny, possession of ganja, assaulting police, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

Allegations are that the complainant, who is a vendor in downtown Kingston, was robbed of a pair of red pants. The court heard that Mitchell was found with the stolen pants.

"Your Honour, I didn't know that the pants was stolen. It was New Year's holiday and my cousin gave it to me for the holidays," Mitchell told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey.
