Battle on for South Central semis |

The return legs of the South Central Confed Super League will be played this weekend with only six of the 12 participants having realistic chances of booking a semi-final spot. In light of recent events, that particular objective could be crucial with the Jamaica Football Federation revealing plans for restructuring, which could end the Confed competition in its current structure, and in a few cases decide their future existence. Frazsiers Whip, New Green and Royal Lakes are in the fray from Zone A, while in Zone B it is Appleton, Rivoli and Bodles. In the case of the respective Zone leaders Frazsiers Whip (13) and Appleton (13) adding another six points from their next two games will seal semi-final places. Both teams are tipped to win their encounters. Appleton drew with Bodles in their first match of the season, but have won four games on the trot. Frazsiers Whip began with a bang by whipping Super Action 4-0 at STETHS. Nothing less is expected at the Prison Oval tomorrow. There, however, are doubts whether this game will materialise as rumours have surfaced that Super Action are in withdrawal mode. Coach of Appleton, Andrew Edwards, told Star Sports his team is focused on making it to the semi-finals. "We have done our homework and we realise that if we win our two next matches and Rivoli does not lose, no other team can overtake us, so we will go into this Bodles encounter very positive." The first half of the preliminary round ended last weekend, with the highlight being Four Path's performance against Frazsiers Whip. The 0-0 draw in Clarendon, ended Frazsiers Whip's perfect run after four matches. The challenge from Four Paths was unlikely, as they had only two points from four matches. A true test of their potential is likely to come when they travel to Brooks Park on Sunday to play defending champions New Green. "The Frazsiers Whip game was a beautiful one, and it will definitely motivate them to do well," coach and president of the Four Paths club, Marlon Allen, told Star Sports. He may find it a good opportunity to play New Green at this time, as the champions have hit a slump, their 1-2 loss to Royal Lakes was a second straight one. In a rescheduled match on earlier this week, Rivoli defeated Bodles 3-0. |
