Police investigators in the St Catherine South Police Division are searching for criminals who are targeting females.

In one of the latest reported cases, the Portmore police said about 4 a.m. on Thursday, a female was walking to work in Cedar Grove in the municipality when she was pounced upon by a man with a gun who held it to her back while trying to force her to go back home.

The police said the woman managed to take him elsewhere and made an alarm. Before running away, the police said, the man used the gun to hit the woman on her head, wounding her.

THE PORTMORE STAR learnt that robberies were on the increase in Portmore with women being the majority of the victims.

In another reported incident, a robber stole J$250 on Monday after reportedly holding up and robbing two women at a bus stop in Waterford.

"We are aware of the problem and will be putting plans in place to deal with it," Superintendent Clive Blair, head of operations at the division, told THE PORTMORE STAR.

A number of females have expressed concerns about the latest trend of robberies which have been targeting women in the municipality.
