A Portmore homeowner who operated a woodwork shop at his home was fined $100,000, or 45 days' imprisonment, when he appeared in the Portmore Municipal Court on Tuesday. He is Ian Solomon of Monza in Greater Portmore. Solomon plead guilty when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Vaughn Smith. It was revealed in court that Solomon was a repeat offender, having been fined $25,000, or 30 days' imprisonment, for the same offence on April 28, 2009. The court heard that in 2011, personnel from the Portmore Municipal Council's enforcement department went to Solomon's home. It was observed that he was operating a woodwork shop at the premises. He was ordered to cease operating, however, he continued. The officers subsequently summoned him to court for operating without the permission of the Local Planning Authority. The Portmore Municipal Court sits every fourth Tuesday of each month in Greater Portmore and deals primarily with breaches which occur in the Sunshine City. -R.T. |
