Farmer on ganja rap granted bail

The Westmoreland farmer charged in connection with a package containing more than two pounds (909 grams) of ganja has been given bail in his own surety.

Delroy Nesbeth, who was given bail earlier this month, told the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court that he didn't have any relatives or friends who could bail him.

Nesbeth is charged with possession of, dealing in, and taking preparatory steps to export ganja.

He is to report to the Bethel Town police twice a week.

Nesbeth, who had initially pleaded not guilty, should return to court on February 20 when the matter will be mentioned as the file is incomplete.

Allegations are that on October 24, the police got information that a parcel suspected of containing ganja was at an office on Half-Way Tree Road, St Andrew.

It is reported that the package contained several items including a T-shirt, a bracelet, a greeting card, and several scented candles.

It is alleged that ganja was found in the scented candles and the package was registered with a national identification card with Nesbeth's name.

"As God liveth, Mr Officer, I don't know anything about this box," Nesbeth reportedly said when he was being arrested.
