A woman accused of hitting another with a broomstick, was sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court Thursday. Princess Lammie, who told the court she is a subcontractor in the Papine Market, St Andrew, was fine of $10,000 or six months in prison by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey. She was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. Lammie, who pleaded guilty with explanation, told the court she and the complainant got into an argument because the complainant refused to pay to use the bathroom and urinated in the market. Allegations say the complainant, who was in the Papine market shopping, got into a confrontation with Lammie, when the accused tried to prevent her from using the bathroom as she did not pay a $30 fee. It is alleged that the complainant was hit with a broomstick. The matter was reported and Lammie was subsequently charged. "Your honour, I went to the Papine market to buy some breadfruit because I was going away and I saw this lady approach me saying that I have to pay to use the bathroom. I said to her that she cannot force me to pay. She hold me up and I just fell somebody hit me with a piece of stick. Your honour, I was looking for a piece of board to hit her, but some people did hold on to me. There is no way I could have urinated in such a public place," the complainant told RM Pusey. |
