Police imposter kills cop, robs church

A search is on for a group of gunmen, who, while dressed as police personnel, killed a policeman and then robbed a church on Tuesday night.

Dead is Dowan Peart, 28-year-old special constable of Morris Meadows Housing Scheme in St Catherine.

Reports are that on Tuesday night, Peart was driving home from work.

He was reportedly travelling along Grange Lane when he was stopped by persons dressed as police personnel.

The policeman was subsequently shot and killed.

The gunmen then proceeded to a church where they robbed the pastor and church members of cellular phones.

A car belonging to the pastor was stolen and abandoned some distance away.

There was condemnation by Police Commissioner Owen Ellington, and a number of Peart's colleagues have expressed sadness of his untimely demise.

He is the second member of the Island Special Constabulary Force to be killed by the gun since the start of the year.
