Accused taxi operator bail extended

Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James taxi operator, who allegedly used a machete to slap a man he accused of burgling his house, had his bail extended by the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday as the case file is incomplete.

Twenty-five-year-old George Moffatt, from Porto Bello and had previously pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Clifford Brown, will return to court on March 27.

Allegations are that on November 18, 2012, a confrontation arose between Moffatt and Brown. During the quarrel, Moffatt grabbed Brown by the throat and slapped him with a machete.

When the case was brought up for mention on Friday, the court was told that the medical certificate is still outstanding from the prosecution's case file against Moffatt.

Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small subsequently set the matter for mention on March 27.
