53-y-o given additional six months after escaping custody

A St Catherine man who was given a five-year sentence for wounding got an additional six months after he briefly escaped custody on Friday.

Herman Thompson, 53-year-old labourer of Linstead, St Catherine, was sentenced in the St Catherine Circuit Court yesterday.

The incident occurred about 1p.m. on Friday when the accused was being escorted. The five-year sentence was handed down by justice Evan Brown.

He was held as he was about to exit the court's compound along Red Church Street. He was charged and brought back to the resident magistrate's court. He pleaded guilty to escaping custody.

He was sentenced to six months hard labour by Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green.

Thompson's appearance arose from an incident where the complainant was chopped and injured by the accused.

He was arrested and charged with wounding with intent.
