WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James man who confessed to breaking into a woman's house and stealing her Toshiba laptop will be sentenced in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on March 8.

Thirty-nine-year-old Anthony Stone of a Bogue address in Montego Bay was remanded in custody on Friday after pleading guilty to housebreaking and larceny. It is alleged that on January 24, Stone broke into Devette Malcolm's house in Bogue Village and stole the laptop, valued at US$850 (J$80,325).

"You broke into the house and stole the laptop? Is this somebody you know?" Resident Magistrate (RM) Sandria Wong-Small asked Stone.

"No, your honour," replied Stone.

"Do you want to tell me why you did it?" asked the RM.

"I don't know; I am just messed up," said Stone.

"So what were you going to do with the laptop?" asked RM Wong-Small.

"Sell it for money," explained Stone.

RM Wong-Small subsequently set the case for sentencing on March 8 and ordered that a social-enquiry report should be done to help in determining Stone's sentence.

"Sentencing is set for March 8; you are remanded in custody, and a social-enquiry report is also requested," the RM told Stone.
