Two persons have been hospitalised following a two-truck collision along the Mandela Highway yesterday. Police reports are that about 1:30 p.m., a Leyland truck laden with cooking oil was travelling behind a Freightliner trailer laden with aggregate. Both vehicles were heading towards Spanish Town when the Leyland truck reportedly ran into the back of the Freightliner. The Leyland front was extensively damaged and resulted in the hospitalisation of the driver and sideman. When the scene was visited, scores of residents converged. A few were seen collecting cooking oil which dripped from a section of the Leyland truck. "We were the ones who help out the two elderly men who were injured. We were more interested to assist the injured more than to loot the cooking oil," a male bystander said. The Traffic Department has launched an investigation into the matter. |
