Taxi operator hospitalised after attack

A taxi operator remains hospitalised and a woman is being sought in connection with his robbery and abduction.

"We think that this woman can assist the police with the investigation. We learnt that she was sending and receiving messages throughout the journey which gave directions to the destination," a policeman said.

Reports from the police are that about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, the woman chartered the taxi in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew. The driver was told he was to take her to Windsor Heights in Central Village, St Catherine.

During the journey it was said that the woman kept communicating with persons on her phone.

Police said upon arrival in Windsor Heights, she reportedly said "one stop" and exited the vehicle. Immediately, about 10 men attacked the driver. They proceeded to beat, stab and rob the driver.

He was then placed in the trunk of the vehicle and driven to the Caymanas Bay area.

The driver managed to escape from the car trunk. He ran into bushes and contacted the police.

When a team arrived, the bleeding man was rescued and taken to the hospital where he was admitted. The Honda motor car he was driving was found abandoned with bloodstains inside.

Detectives from the St Catherine Scene of Crime Unit examined the vehicle.
