55-y-o drinks kerosene after break-up
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A 55-year-old St Catherine man was hospitalised Saturday night after he drank kerosene oil because his 45-year-old woman had broken up with him.

The Ewarton police told THE STAR that the Linstead man drank the product after his common-law wife, with whom he lived many years, moved out the home and went to live in Mount Rosser in the parish.

Information reaching THE STAR is that the woman, for reasons not disclosed, moved out the home a few days ago. Police said about 10 p.m. on Saturday, the dejected man went to visit her at her family home to plead his case.

After several unsuccessful attempts to get the woman to start back the relationship, the man apparently took it to heart and drank a quantity of the kerosene.

Police said he immediately took ill and had to be rushed to Linstead Hospital by members of the woman's family. He was admitted in critical condition.

Efforts to speak with people close to the incident yesterday proved futile.
