A 33-year-old St Elizabeth man accused of wounding a four-year-old child, was given a bail extension in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Ian Vassel, who is charged with unlawful wounding, is accused of throwing a glass bottle which reportedly shatter and cut the child.

Resident Magistrate Sonia Wint-Blair was told that Vassel had an argument with Daisy Campbell, who is also of a St Elizabeth address, following which he threw the glass bottle at Campbell.

The court heard that the bottle shattered and the pieces cut one of two children who were with Campbell at the time.

Resident Magistrate Wint-Blair cautioned Vassel against having any further contact with the witness after he admitted contacting Campbell in an effort to plead his case.

medical care

Campbell told the court that members of Vassel's family had approached her offering money to cover the child's medical care in an effort to get her to drop the charges against him. She said she has declined their offer.

But Campbell, who is the grandmother of the child who was hurt in the incident, asked the court to

drop the case against Vassel as the mother of the child did not want to proceed with the matter any further.

RM Wint-Blair, however refused to have the charge against Vassel dropped and ordered that he return to court on March 7 to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty in the matter.
