Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer WESTERN BUREAU: A St James man accused of cutting a 12-year-old girl during a dispute with her mother, will learn of his fate when he returns to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on February 26. Montego Bay resident Godfrey Mendez, who is charged with unlawful wounding, had his bail extended on Friday. Allegations are that on December 18, 2012, Mendez was in a domestic dispute with the child's mother when he brandished a machete and attacked the woman. However, the child intervened and received a wound to her shoulder as a result. On Friday, the prosecution indicated that the case against Mendez may be cut short as the complainants, who were absent from court, may not be interested in pursuing the matter any further. Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small subsequently set the case for mention on February 26, at which time the investigating officer is to secure a statement from the child's mother indicating her intention in the matter.
