Businessman fined for tax evasion

St Elizabeth businessman David Nash was convicted when he appeared in the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court on tax evasion charges recently.

Nash appeared before Resident Magistrate Sonia Wint-Blair, charged with six counts of failure to file employee education tax returns, six counts of failure to file personal tax returns and six counts of failure to pay company tax returns.

Resident Magistrate Wint-Blair ordered Nash to pay a fine of $72,000 or serve 10 days on each counts. If the fines are not paid, the sentences are to concurrently.

The allegations against the businessman were not read out in court.

Nash was also ordered to return to the court on June 5, 2013, where another case against him for the failure to file General Consumption Tax returns for the months from July 2004 to March 2012, would be mentioned.
