Ryon Jones, Staff Reporter Harbour View continued their march to the Red Stripe Premier League title after seeing off a challenge from Montego Bay United with a 2-1 win in their opening third-round encounter yesterday at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium. The result saw Harbour View extend their lead atop the standings. The Stars of the East's goals were scored by Donovan Edwards (3rd) and Richard Edwards (69th), and moved them to 48 points, which is good enough for a 10-point gap over second-place Portmore United in the 12-team standing. Montego Bay United, who were suffering their third consecutive defeat, got their goal from Dino Williams (14th), as they slipped to fifth on 34 points. Portmore United failed in their bid to keep pace with Harbour View after they were held 1-1 at Ferdie Neita Park by cellar dwellers Savannah. Savannah, who have not lost in their last three games, opened the scoring through Cavel Blake in the eighth minute. Portmore earned a share of the points through Fueala McCalla (39th) to move to 38 points. Savannah remain at the foot of the table with 16 points. unbeaten streak Renae Lloyd's second goal of the season was enough to see Boys' Town get by Cavalier at Collie Smith Drive. The 1-0 win saw the Red Brigade extend their unbeaten streak to six games, as they climbed to third in the standing on 37 points. Beaten second end-of-round finalist, Cavalier, were suffering their first defeat in six regular league games. Despite the loss, Cavalier remain sixth on 34 points. Waterhouse, under new head coach, Anthony Patrick, were held to a 0-0 draw by Highgate for the third time this season in their match played at the Drax Hall Sports Complex. Waterhouse have now gone five league games without a win, to lie seventh on 33 points. Highgate moved to 21 points, but remain second from bottom, as they have now gone four games without scoring a goal. The Clarendon derby between Sporting Central Academy and Humble Lion ended in a 1-1 deadlock at the Effortville Community Centre. Sporting (29) and Humble Lion (27) occupy eighth and 10th in the standing, respectively. Ninth-place Tivoli Gardens go in search of their first win in seven league games when they host fourth-place Arnett Gardens at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex tonight, with match time set for 9:15. |
