A man of unsound mind is being called a hero after he used stones to ward off an attack that was being carried out against a St Catherine woman yesterday.

The incident occurred along Cumberland Road in Spanish Town.

About 12:30 p.m., a woman was being beaten by a male companion after she was accused of engaging in an intimate act with another man.

The man who is said to be of an unsound mind started to hurl stones at the enraged man. Although angered by his babymother's misdeed, the man reportedly ran away from the area to prevent himself from being injured.

"Yes, the man save di woman as di bredda really beat har. Yuh muss remember dat even mad people have parents, and will react to what they don't like," a bystander said.

That view was echoed by several persons who claimed they had witnessed the incident.

The police who were nearby intervened and held on to the man who had been allegedly abusing the woman as he tried to escape. He was subsequently charged with assault. The man of unsound mind was not charged.
