The May Pen police said they have made a dent in an illicit car-sale scam following the death of two men who were believed to be main players in the illicit act. A source attached to the May Pen Police told THE WEEKEND STAR the men were linked to a series of incidents whereby persons attempting to purchase cars were held up and robbed. Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that the men, who form part of a motor vehicle scam ring operating in Clarendon, were cut down while attempting to rob unsuspecting car buyers in Denbigh, Clarendon on Tuesday. Our news team was told that the men reportedly engaged the police in a shoot-out in the Cemetery Road area of Denbigh, May Pen, on Tuesday afternoon. The dead men have since been identified as Andrew Chong and 'Gilly Bong'. According to police reports, about 3:30 p.m., persons allegedly responded to a newspaper advertisement regarding the sale of a motor vehicle and went to an address in Denbigh. Initial reports are that the police accompanied the buyers. However, our news team gathered that the police were close by in the area conducting an operation and came upon the scammers while they were in the process of robbing a prospective buyer. Further reports are that when the police showed up, the gunmen opened fire on them. THE WEEKEND STAR understands the fire was returned and the two were hit. A third man managed to escape. The players involved in the illicit trade have reportedly robbed thousands of dollars from unsuspecting victims. |
