Three cops face court on corruption charges

Woman Corporal Valrie McIntosh, along with two constables, Shaniel Anderson and Otwani Deer, all of the Constant Spring Police Station appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

In January, the corporal and the constables allegedly went to the house of an accused man who was out on bail and had breached his bail conditions.

The three are accused of corruptly soliciting $100,000 from the accused man in order not to place him in custody.

It is reported that $50,000 was paid over, while an arrangement was made for the remainder to be paid the following day.

A report was subsequently made to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) and an investigation was launched following which a file was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions who ruled that the three be charged.

They were each granted bail in the sum of $600,000 with conditions.

They must all report to the station three times per week and surrender their travel documents.

They are scheduled to return to court on March 26, 2013.
