Portmore resident Suzan Smith, who is accused of killing her sister a year ago, was again remanded when she appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday. Smith is charged with the February 6, 2012 murder of her sister Stacey-Ann. She is set to reappear before the court on March 4 when the preliminary inquiry will continue. Stacey-Ann Smith was a 35-year-old labourer of Portsmouth in the municipality. During the preliminary inquiry one witness, who is a sister of both the accused and the complainant, testified. She told the court that the accused tried to trick her with text messages, saying it was Stacey-Ann. The witness told the court that she became suspicious when Suzan called her and when she recognised her voice she hung up. When she was cross-examined, she said her suspicion was aroused as some of the words in the text were not normally words used by the deceased sister whenever they were texting. The Crown led evidence that in February last year, the decomposing body of Stacey-Ann Smith was retrieved from the rear of the family house in Portsmouth. The body was wrapped in a crocus bag and buried in the foundation of an unfinished bathroom. Investigation by Detective Sergeant Llewellyn Madden resulted in Suzan being charged with murder. - R.T |
