Female students brawl at UWI - Cops arrest girls in no holds barred fight

Scores of people at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, were given an eyeful recently following a no holds barred fight between two females at the university's Student Union.

The high drama occurred about 3 p.m. in full view of other students and bystanders, after the girls got into a heated argument when one accused the other of entering her bag and stealing several items, THE STAR understands.

"All I saw happening was when the girl was confronted, and she say a nuh she thief nothing. The girl box box her up in her face and then them start a quick fight," one witness told THE STAR, adding that eventually, "people come part dem."

prevent things

So rowdy was the face-off that Campus police and security were summoned to the scene to prevent things from escalating. It was later revealed that both were arrested, one for simple larceny and the other for assault, and they will face the courts soon.

Efforts to speak to a university official on the incident proved futile yesterday and the Campus police chose to remain tight-lipped on the matter, pointing THE STAR to the police's information arm, the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN). However, when contact, the CCN said based on the nature of the matter, they will not be issuing a press release.

The fight has become a hot topic on the lips of students at the university, but acting president of the Guild of Students, Terron Dewar, said he was ignorant of the incident. "This is the first I am hearing about this incident. I have been extremely busy dealing with the University Week Business. No one has reported this matter to me. I would have to check with the rest of the councillors and staff," he told THE STAR.

Ironically, another student that contacted THE STAR to provide her account of what transpired said, "It happen in real life and more than 20 students and bystanders were on hand and witnessed it. A di police come and take dem away. If yuh call dem and ask dem a bet yuh dem ago deny it because a so dem stay up here. All when a bag of things gwan nothing nuh gwan fi dem, then how things ago change?"
