André Williams, STAR Writer A 41-year-old Jamaican wo-man who was caught with ganja packaged in cans labelled with ackee will face the courts in Antigua today answering to various charges, including drug trafficking and importation. The name of the woman is being withheld after she was arrested on Friday, February 15 by Antiguan officials. According to www.antiguaobserver.com, the Jamaican woman was arrested and charged at the airport after apparently being caught with $90,000 ($3,073,500) worth of cannabis, hidden inside cans of ackee. THE STAR gathered that the woman was picked up by officers from the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) after she arrived at the VC Bird International Airport on a Caribbean Airways flight from Jamaica. The hidden drug was found after a search of her luggage which revealed more than 23 pounds (10.45 kilograms) of the drug. According to reports, the compressed cannabis was found inside a cardboard box containing 24 factory-sealed cans of the fruit. |
