The first annual West Awards will be held at Kokonut Grooves in Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland on Saturday, March 9.

The event, which is being promoted by Tia Rainford of Queen T Promotions, will see awards being handed out in more than a dozen categories, including Artiste Of The Year, Promoter Of The Year, Radio Station Of The Year, Party Of The Year, Club Of The Year, Sound-system Of The Year, Selector Of The Year and Hair Dresser Of The Year.

According to the promoter of the awards show, the West Awards will be the first event of its kind to be staged in Savanna-la-mar.

"The people are very excited about the West Awards. it's going to be the first music awards show to be held in Savanna-la-mar, so you can imagine the amount of buzz our promotion campaign has been generating in Western Jamaica since we announced that we are staging the awards," said Rainford.

She also emphasised that the West Awards was created to honour the movers and shakers in the entertainment industry in Westmoreland.

"We have a very vibrant entertainment scene in Westmoreland. we host a plethora of top-class entertainment events right throughout the year. We also have a lot of talented artistes, selectors, hairdressers and party promoters etc. So I think it's very important for us to show our respect and appreciation to all these wonderful individuals who do their best to keep the entertainment scene alive in our parish, and that's the main reason behind the creation of the West Awards."

The West Awards will be hosted by popular IRIE FM radio personality Elise Kelly. Romaine Virgo will be the special guest performer for the event.
