Man to be sentenced for abducting woman

March 14 was the date set for sentencing in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for a man who abducted a woman in downtown Kingston and attempted to rape her.

Renaldo Parkes, who is charged with forcible abduction and robbery, was also ordered to submit his fingerprints to the police by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey.

A social-enquiry report was also ordered.

According to the prosecution, on the day of the incident, the defendant pounced upon the complainant while she was walking along Orange Street in the capital and pulled her against her will into a dark corner.

The prosecution told the court that the defendant pretended to be armed with a firearm and proceeded to rob the woman of her valuables including her cellphone and cash.

He then attempted to force the woman to perform certain sexual favours involuntarily.

His attempt was interrupted by a passer-by who came to the woman's assistance. The defendant was later handed over to the police.
