Woman beaten with piece of board

A man who told the court that he beat a woman with a piece of board because she had interfered in his family affair is to know his fate on March 11.

He is Marvin Cleghorn, who has been charged with assault.

Cleghorn, who has been ordered to pay $50,000 for the complainant's pain and suffering, had his bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Allegations are that on the day of the incident, the accused used a piece of board to beat the complainant all over her body during a dispute.

injuries face

Excerpts from the complainant's medical report stated that she suffered injuries to her face, arm, lower back and knee.

"Your Honour, mi sorry about everything. It was not my day and I really apologise. I hit her once, I didn't beat her, and I was trying to contact her after the incident so that we could work it out," the accused said.

However, Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey told the accused that her job description doesn't include forgiveness.

"She is not a child, she is a grown woman. You ought to do some time for this, come back in two weeks time with the $50,000 to compensate the complainant," RM Pusey said.
