Man fined for smoking ganja

Laughter erupted in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently after a matter concerning a man who recently told police officers that he was the son of reggae legend Bob Marley was heard.

The defendant, Nicholas Rose, who sported a low haircut rather than locks, pleaded guilty to smoking ganja and was fined $3,000 or 30 days.

The prosecution informed Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that the defendant signed his name as Marley on the bail bond.

" I told them that Bob Marley is my family so that's why them write that," Rose said, which amused the court.

"I told them Nicholas Rose, but them write Marley," he continued, which revived the laughter in the courtroom. Rose was accosted by police on February 8 after he was seen smoking the contraband.
