The Old Harbour Bay community in St Catherine was plunged into mourning yesterday following the drowning of a resident.

Dead is Delroy McBean, a 51-year-old fisherman of Buddo district in the small fishing village.

Reports are that about 7 a.m. yesterday, residents saw McBean's body near the Jamaica Public Service Company's power barge. A report was made to the Old Harbour Bay Police Station.

The police went to the scene to retrieve the body, but could not as it was in an advanced stage of decomposition.

McBean's son, Alrick, said his father left for sea on Friday when tragedy struck.

"He left to go fishing about 9 o'clock and he was never seen again. This is a very sad time for the family," Alrick said.

As the news of McBean's death spread, scores of residents converged most expressing sadness on his passing.
