DJ Mental on the rise
Davina Henry, Staff Reporter

He got his start by listening to his musical influences Squingy and Billy Slaughter, and now DJ Mental is ready to claim his space among the greatest dancehall selectors.

The 28-year-old Kingston native, whose given name is Jason Morrison, told The STAR that he developed a passion for music after watching other selectors on the turntables.

"My first experience was taking a record off the turntables, wiping water off it and putting it back in the case," he said.

Since then, he has mastered the craft and is now a fixture on some of today's most popular events.

As his name suggests, DJ Mental says patrons can always expect "crazy excitement" whenever he is at the helm.

"DJ Mental means something that is fresh, new and different. It represents something different, a cut above the rest. DJ Mental is a name that everybody will remember after every event," he told The STAR.

The talented selector who has spent a number of years carving a niche for himself on the local scene, has already set his sights on new horizons.

DJ Mental is slated to perform at the highly anticipated Downtown Carnival, New Kidz birthday party and Romeich's Wata party.

Fans can also look out for him in Antigua and Trinidad in the upcoming months.
