Rasbert Turner, Star Writer The Director of Public Prosecutions yesterday ruled that a policeman accused of attempting to rape a woman at the station he works, be charged. The DPP reportedly ruled that the police corporal be charged with attempted rape. The cop appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday where his attorney, Christopher Townsend, made a successful bail application, telling the court his client is not a flight-risk and is able to defend his innocence. Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece granted the corporal bail in the sum of $300,000 with one or two sureties. He is booked to reappear in court on June 12 when the matter is scheduled to be tried. The policeman is charged in connection with an incident at a police station in St Catherine last year. He is accused of attempting to rape the woman, who is a janitorial worker at the station. A report was subsequently made and an investigation launched and a file submitted to the offices of the DPP for a ruling. |
