One person arrested in suspected trafficking

The youth ministry is reporting that the police have arrested a resident of a British overseas territory believed to be involved in trafficking Jamaican children.

The ministry says a child who was the subject of a suspected human trafficking attempt, is now in the care of the Child development Agency (CDA).

In addition, the ministry says the Organised Crime Investigation Division of the police force is now pursuing investigations based on information uncovered by the CDA which points to a suspected ring involving the trafficking of Jamaican children to another Caribbean country.

The youth ministry says the investigation is in keeping with Jamaica being party to the Optional Protocol to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography.
