Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer WESTERN BUREAU: Four St James men, who were arrested after they were allegedly caught with 857 pounds of ganja last September, were told to return to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on May 22 as the forensic certificate in the case is not ready. Peter Chin, a 56-year-old mechanic of Roehampton district; gardener Delroy Crawford, 54, of Over River district; Ansel Marson, 53, also a gardener from John's Hall and bus driver Dalton Wright, 38, from Catherine, all had their combined $2 million bail extended when they appeared in court on Friday. Allegations are that on September 18 about midnight, a police team acting on information went to a property at Unity Hall in St James. A search of the premises, revealed 19 bags with 857 pounds of vegetable matter resembling ganja. The four, who were on the property at the time, were placed in custody at the Freeport Police Station, and were later charged on September 20. When the matter was mentioned on Friday, the prosecution admitted that the forensic certificate was still outstanding from its case file. Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small subsequently set the matter for mention on May 22, at which time the certificate is expected to be completed. |
