Taxi operator pleads guilty to drug charge |

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A Clarendon man who was held with more than 20 pounds (9.09 kilograms) of cocaine pleaded guilty when he appeared in court today. He is Delroy Cole, 32-year-old taxi operator of May Pen, Clarendon. When the matter came up before Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reese yesterday, Cole was remanded in custody for sentencing. He pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, conspiracy and conveyance of cocaine. He pleaded not guilty for the offence of dealing in cocaine. Cole is scheduled to return to court on April 2, when he is to be sentenced. Clerk of court Joel Brown told the court that on February 20 police personnel from the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division were on duty along Featherbed Lane. A Toyota motor car driven by Cole was intercepted and two cellophane wrapped rectangular packages were seized. The vehicle was taken to the Caribbean Search Centre where three additional packages were found in the car's spare tyre. All the packages were checked and weighed 24.6 pounds (11.18 kilograms). He was subsequently arrested and charged by the police with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act. . When he appeared, he was represented by attorney-at-law Earl Delisser. |
